B&P Shadorma & Beyond – November 12, 2013

Hello Friends,

I was very sad to hear of the passing of Leonard Cohen last week  … and thought we’d pay honour to one of the great poet/song writers of our day.  The song I chose is Hallelujah:

Hallelujah
Now I’ve heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew her
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
You say I took the name in vain
I don’t even know the name
But if I did, well really, what’s it to you?
There’s a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn’t matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn’t much
I couldn’t feel, so I tried to touch
I’ve told the truth, I didn’t come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I’ll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
You might want to choose to write a chained Shadorma … or another of the many forms we’ve introduced over the two years we’ve been writing interpreting this lovely song.
Once you’ve written your poem hash tag B&P Shadorma & Beyond and Mindlovesmisery’s Menagerie then link up with or Mr. Linky app … if you have problems just link up to this post and you’ll show up in our comments page.
Have a great week, ciao, Bastet.

  1. You have chosen one of my favourite Leonard Cohen songs. Thanks. I’m not sure what a chained shadorma is (I’ll have to check), but I suspect I’ll follow form.
For those of you who haven’t heard her — check out kd lang singing Hallelujah — her dynamic voice will give you the shivers. Although she has recorded it masterfully, her live performance at the opening of the 2010 Olympic Games (on YouTube) brings me to tears.
    Good bye Leonard.

    • Thanks Lorraine, I’m sorry I’ve so late answering this, a chained shadorma is a series of shadorma about the same subject .. the shadormas are stanzas in effect. Glad you too like this song and thanks for the tip about kd lang, I’ll certainly look her up.
