    for what seemed like forever
    squashed
    without food or water
    left in the dark
    no one to hear her cries
    she wondered
    if she would ever be free
    if she would ever fly again
    then she smelled the sea
    and her heart soared
    she pushed against her cage
    until her wing burst forth
    feeling the sun on her feathers
    she danced until the box fell away
    once released
    she headed for the water
    weary but happy
    screaming with joy
    she dove
    picked up a pebble
    and began to play

    everyone knows
    that a seagull
    belongs in the air
