Hello everyone,
I don’t know about you but I had been missing our Thursday Tale Weaver prompt. And since I’ve always been convinced that instead of complaining that something isn’t happening, one should just do something about it, well here I am. I offered to pick up where Michael left off and hopefully I will carry the torch as well as he did during the 4 years he hosted this wonderful prompt…
So without further ado…
“Are people born wicked?” (from Wicked, No One Mourns the Wicked)
A few days ago, I was contemplating the fact that most tales are told from the hero’s perspective. What if the story was told from the villain’s point of view?
Isn’t it all a question of perspective?
Some authors have become known for this particular brand of writing, like Gregory Maguire’s Wicked or Confession of an Ugly Stepsister.
Even Disney’s taken to telling its classics from another point of view, like Maleficent… And whether we like the result or not (full disclaimer: I didn’t), it is still an interesting exercise.
So this week, I’d like to invite you to write a story from the villain’s perspective.
Whether you decide to spin an old fairy tale in a new way or write a new story from your villain’s point of view, is your call. It’s your story after all.
And feel free to include a moral if you wish
However you decide to contribute (Victor Hugo wrote the epic La Légende des Siècles – Legend of the Ages – all in verse after all), try and keep it under 1000 words.
It may sound like a lot but sometimes… we get carried away. I know I do.
In summary
- Go where the prompt takes you and have fun!
- Prose, poetry, fable… please share your stories in whatever style works for you.
- Keep your stories/quests/tales below 1000 words
- Post it on your blog and tag it MLMM, Tale Weaver, Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie
- Be sure to leave a pingback or a link so we (I) can read your contribution
I thank you all for your trust.
