Look for an Evergreen Day
(It’s also my oldest son’s birthday.)
It seemed fitting, this Monday before Christmas, to feature the evergreen tree. The first evergreen tree decorated (that we know of) was in 1510, in Riga, Latvia. By the 1600’s the tradition of bringing them indoors was established in Germany. The tallest displayed, as of last measure, was in 1948, a Norway spruce in Rockefeller Center, N.Y. City.
