“Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IjgZGhHrYY
Welcome to my Sunday Writing Prompt! Do I have the words to express how much your support has meant to me? …probably. But, I’ll sum it up with a huge THANK YOU!!
My prompt for this week came as easily and unexpectedly as the others. Sometimes it just feels right, and what else to do but run with it!
“You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
Too much love drives a man insane
You broke my will, but what a thrill
Goodness gracious, great balls of fire”
Great Balls of Fire can be interpreted in many different ways…a crazy lover, an atom bomb, soccer/football match, fireworks, perhaps a large meteorite on a collision course with Earth, or a man sitting far too close to the campfire lol 🙂
Today’s Sunday Writing Prompt is:
Great Balls of Fire
The Rules:
- The style is completely open; poetry, prose, even a single sentence…Go where the prompt takes YOU!
- Keep your submission to 500 words or less.
- Post it on your page, and TAG it Sunday Writing Prompt, SWP, MLMM, Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie. And be sure to leave a link or pingback in the comment section below.
- Feel free to use my photo for inspiration, or as your own cover image.
- Please have your submissions in by the END OF EACH FRIDAY (Pacific Standard Time). Every Saturday, I will post a “standout” piece in a post entitled, SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT. Bear in mind, it will be based on my personal opinion. If you are not chosen, that does NOT mean your piece was not superb.
- Be creative and HAVE FUN!
Please, take a moment and visit last week’s selection for the Saturday Spotlight series, Fandango, https://fivedotoh.com/2021/05/10/sunday-writing-prompt-a-beautiful-mistake/

I am happy that you enjoyed my post. Another blogger complained to me that his post did not get approved, so I logged into the MM website and approved several posts for you.

For me? That’s strange, I don’t require approval for any posts?! I appreciate your help 🙂

I appreciate you bringing this to my attention, Ron!! I took over the Sunday Writing Prompt, and didn’t realize there were any restrictions. I have just approved a number of submissions, and will do what I can to make sure this doesn’t occur in the future. Thanks again!

I didn’t think this prompt was going to work for me, but after journaling a bit, it helped me explore anaphora and creating/breaking a pattern. Thank you. https://experiencewriting.com/2021/05/16/great-balls-of-fire-a-getaway-pegacorn-happens/

It’s a funny thing; I’d never heard that expression in any context except The Origin of Love from the musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch. One line says “and then storm clouds gathered above into great balls of fire”… so I used that. But I ended up searching what it meant and I learned a lot of things.
So thank you very much for another great prompt 🙂

So pleased you enjoy my prompts! Great take, very creative. Once again, I envision an entire novel. You really set a scene, leaving me aching for the backstory and conclusion.
