Mindlovemisery's Menagerie

A dose of fetish. Good friends. An incomparable muse.

Saturday Spotlight – Apr 17, 2021

Welcome to Saturday Spotlight, where I choose what I consider a standout piece from the Sunday Writing Prompt. This week’s word prompt was FREEDOM, https://mindlovemiserysmenagerie.wordpress.com/2021/04/11/mlmm-sunday-writing-prompt-apr-11-21-freedom/

You are NOT making this easy for me. I enjoyed every submission for vastly different reasons. But, when it comes down to it, I always go with my gut. My choice for this week was short and sweet.

This week’s Saturday Spotlight goes to, Erlyn Olivia!! https://naturewhispering.wordpress.com/2021/04/11/freedom-a-senryu/

I enjoyed it for a few reasons. First, it can be interpreted in a multitude of ways. I think it’s really special when a piece means different things to different people. Second, I really loved the photo choice of the poster. It was beautiful and fitting to the writing (visit the link to enjoy). And third, I learned a new writing term! You will find the meaning below 🙂

Erlyn Olivia’s Submission – Freedom (a senryu)

Boldly she whispers,

will freedom exists if I

travel to your heart?

What is a senryu, you ask? I asked myself the same thing. I did some research and found this from Wikipedia:

Senryū is a Japanese form of short poetry similar to haiku in construction: three lines with 17 morae. Senryū tend to be about human foibles while haiku tend to be about nature, and senryū are often cynical or darkly humorous while haiku are more serious.

How cool is that! Erlyn Olivia hit the mark as far as I’m concerned. Please, take a moment to visit her personal page and give the kudos she deserves, https://naturewhispering.wordpress.com/

A fresh Sunday Writing Prompt will be posted tomorrow, April 18, 2021. I can’t wait to read what you all come up with!!

Thank you to friends at MLMM. What an honor to be given the spotlight. I hope to be able to participate in future prompts again. Keep up the good job, guys.
