Saturday Mix – Lucky Dip, 2 November 2019

Welcome to the Saturday Mix – Lucky Dip, 2 November 2019!

For this week’s Lucky Dip, I have reached into my mystery bag and pulled out a Diatelle. The topic is up to you!

You may be thinking to yourself, What on earth is a Diatelle?

Luckily, Shadow Poetry has an explanation…

The Diatelle is a fun, syllable counting form like the etheree with a twist. The syllable structure of the diatelle is as follows: 1/2/3/4/6/8/10/12/10/8/6/4/3/2/1, but unlike an ethere, has a set rhyme pattern of abbcbccaccbcbba. This poetry form may be written on any subject matter and looks best center aligned in a diamond shape.

The Diatelle form was created by Bradley Vrooman.

Good luck with your ‘Lucky Dip Diatelle’ – I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Don’t forget to tag ‘Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie’, ‘Saturday Mix’, and hashtag #LuckyDip.

As always, make sure you link your fabulous creation to the helpful Mister Linky.

This is a challenge since the example doesn’t follow the syllable count provided.
And the syllable lines don’t match with the rhyme lines – there is one more letter line than there is syllable count lines. Unless I’m missing something?

    I might have to pass.

Oh… I think the diatelle has 8 syllables per line and the other structure/syllable count was for the ethere. …?

Hi Jules. My sincere apologies. I had copied and pasted the post from my last Lucky Dip challenge and forgot to update the example (the example poem was a monetetra) I was trying to save time as I am in the middle of writing my school reports. That will teach me for taking shortcuts 😣it should be fixed now with a correct example.

That’s OK but I don’t think this particular example counts correctly either
as it goes; 1,2,3,4,5,8,10,12,8,8,6,4,3,2,1 (I copied it verbatim in to a syllable counting program….) So I’ll go with your original syllable count as a guide.

Good luck with your school reports. 🙂

I’m still baffled as the example doesn’t follow the rhyme scheme either…
The example is aaaa, bbbb, cccc, aaaa….
