Mindlovemisery's Menagerie

A dose of fetish. Good friends. An incomparable muse.

Sunday Writing Prompt “Harlequin’s Mirror”

Harlequins Mirror

The Scene

The glass is icy to the touch and forgiving like water. Your body passes easily through the surface, curiously malleable as if your bones had been replaced with elastic. On the other side of the glass you see a replica of the previous landscape save for the reversal of left and right. The birds in the sky are in the same formation as before only now they are facing the opposite direction. You stare at them for a long time before realizing that their wings only appear to be in motion, they are, in fact, suspended in the gauzy skyline.

Your job is simply to write a story or poem using this basic scene description.

Some possible things to consider

What does the place name make you think of? Is it apt?

What manner of creatures live beyond?

Are there replicas of people that you know? Of yourself? How are they different if they are different?

Describe your sense of uncanny valley

What is your objective in going to this place?

It was easy to enter but how easy is it to leave? Do you even want to leave?

Hi – nice to meet you and thanks for participating this week! Just to note, I had to correct your link – the one you offered was leading back to the “writing dashboard” – so just make sure that when you do post, you then copy the actual “live” post url to share … otherwise we can’t find your words … (don’t worry, these things happen from time to time) …
