High Hopes” by Panic at the Disco

“Panic! at the Disco is an American rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2004 by childhood friends Brendon Urie, Ryan Ross, Spencer Smith and Brent Wilson. Since 2015, vocalist Urie has been the only official member of the band, with lead guitarist Kenneth Harris, drummer Dan Pawlovich, and bassist Nicole Row accompanying him on tour.

Panic! at the Disco recorded its first demos while its members were in high school. Shortly after, the band recorded and released its debut studio album, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out (2005). Popularized by the second single, “I Write Sins Not Tragedies,” the album was certified double platinum in the US. In 2006, founding bassist Brent Wilson was fired from the band during an extensive world tour and subsequently replaced by Jon Walker.

In 2015, Smith officially left the band. Thereafter, Weekes became a touring member again, leaving Urie as the only member of the official lineup. In April 2015, “Hallelujah” was released as the first single from Panic! at the Disco’s fifth studio album, Death of a Bachelor (2016). In 2017, Weekes announced his departure from the band. Nevertheless, the band’s sixth studio album, Pray for the Wicked, was released on June 22, 2018, with the song “High Hopes.” (Wikipedia.com).

*****

Had to have high, high hopes for a living

Shooting for the stars when I couldn’t make a killing

Didn’t have a dime but I always had a vision

Always had high, high hopes

*****

Had to have high, high hopes for a living

Didn’t know how but I always had a feeling

I was gonna be that one in a million

Always had high, high hopes

*****

Mama said

Fulfill the prophecy

Be something greater

Go make a legacy

Manifest destiny

Back in the days

We wanted everything, wanted everything

*****

Mama said

Burn your biographies

Rewrite your history

Light up your wildest dreams

Museum victories, everyday

We wanted everything, wanted everything

*****

Mama said, don’t give up, it’s a little complicated

All tied up, no more love and I’d hate to see you waiting

*****

Mama said

It’s uphill for oddities

Stranger crusaders

Ain’t ever wannabes

The weird and the novelties

Don’t ever change

We wanted everything, wanted everything

*****

Stay up on that rise

Stay up on that rise and never come down, oh…

Stay up on that rise

Stay up on that rise and never come down

*****

Mama said, don’t give up, it’s a little complicated

All tied up, no more love and I’d hate to see you waiting

They say it’s all been done but they haven’t seen the best of me-e-e-e

So I got one more run and it’s gonna be a sight to see-e-e-e

*****

Had to have high, high hopes for a living

Shooting for the stars when I couldn’t make a killing

Didn’t have a dime but I always had a vision

Always had high, high hopes

Had to have high, high hopes for a living

Didn’t know how but I always had a feeling

I was gonna be that one in a million

Always had high, high hopes
