Last time I did the music challenge, four weeks ago, I found that some of you much love great music from the 1960’s. This week I’d like you to see what you can make of The Beatles classic, “Hey Jude,” sung by Paul McCartney and the rest.

“Hey Jude” sung by the Beatles
“Hey Jude (original title: The Beatles Again) was a 1970’s Beatles collection of non-album singles and B-sides. It included “I Should Have Known Better,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” and others. “The Hey Jude album was a project conceived by Allen Klein and Apple Records. Klein negotiated a more lucrative contract for the Beatles in 1969 and wanted to increase the band’s income with a new album.
He directed Allan Steckler of ABKCO/Apple to work on one with the band. Steckler chose Beatle’s songs that had not spanned the group’s career. He focused on recent singles and The Beatles’ earlier material. Originally, the album was to be called The Beatles Again. But before the record was released, the title was changed to Hey Jude in order to promote the inclusion of the top-selling song that led off side-two of the LP.
Neither the front nor the back of the album jacket displayed the record’s title (or the name of the band), but most copies were sold in a jacket whose spine read Hey Jude. Until the release of 1967–1970 in 1973, Hey Jude was the only way to own the popular “Hey Jude” single on LP or in a stereo mix.
On the vinyl version, “Hey Jude” opens side-two. This was done because side-two was the longer side, and it was the practice in some tape formats to lead the album with the longer side to avoid a gap in the “middle” of the tape. The four-track tape has all songs in their original chronological order. In January 2014 Hey Jude was issued on CD both individually and in an American Beatles album compilation box set.”
Use “Hey Jude” sung by The Beatles, for inspiration to any form of creative expression (including but not limited to short stories, poems, lyrics, artwork, photography, (etc.). Alternatively, if you are a musician, use this as an opportunity to showcase your own work.
What do the lyrics inspire in you? Do you have any memories associated with this song? What do you think McCartney and the other Beatles were getting at when they wrote this song? You can always use pieces of the lyrics to inspire you. Any creative form goes, within reason.
Hey, Jude, don’t be afraid
You were made to go out and get her
The minute you let her under your skin
Then you begin to make it better
And anytime you feel the pain,
Hey, Jude, refrain
Don’t carry the world upon your shoulders
For well you know that it’s a fool
Who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah nah
Hey, Jude, don’t let me down
You have found her, now go and get her
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better
So let it out and let it in,
Hey, Jude, begin
You’re waiting for someone to perform with
And don’t you know that it’s just you,
Hey, Jude, you’ll do
The movement you need is on your shoulder
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah nah yeah
Hey, Jude, don’t make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her under your skin
Then you’ll begin to make it better, better, better, better, better… oh!
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,
Hey, Jude
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,
Hey, Jude
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,
Hey, Jude (Jude)
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,
Hey, Jude (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,
Hey, Jude
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,
Hey, Jude (don’t make it bad, Jude)
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,
Hey, Jude (take a sad song and make it better)
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,
Hey, Jude (oh, Jude)
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,
Hey, Jude (Jude, hey, Jude, whoa)
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,
Hey, Jude
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,
Hey, Jude (ooh)
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,
Hey, Jude
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,
Hey, Jude
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,©
Hey, Jude
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,

Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah,
Hey, Jude [fade out]
