Music Challenge #24: Tim McGraw & Faith Hill – “Speak To A Girl” #amwriting #musicchallenge #MLMM

There are many great Tim McGraw and Faith Hill duets to choose from, as the country superstar couple has many superb ones together.

These are in addition to the wonderful music they sing as independent music stars. Their latest tour is a joint one, which makes sense as they can take their kids along. So, for this week, I’ve chosen one of their new duets, “Speak to A Girl” from their album, The Rest of Our Lives.

“Speak to A Girl” – Duet by Tim McGraw & Faith Hill

“Samuel Timothy McGraw (May 1, 1967) is an American country singer, songwriter, and actor. He has been married to Faith Hill since 1996, and is son of baseball player, Tug McGraw. McGraw began singing with 1997’s Everywhere album. He developed a crossover-friendly, country-pop sound. He was one of the first male Country singers of his generation to crossover to Pop music. His now wife, Audrey Faith McGraw (September 21, 1967) is an American country singer and record producer. She is one of the most successful country artists of all time. She has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide.

Tim McGraw has released fourteen studio albums, 10 of which have reached number 1 on the Top Country Albums chart. His 1994 breakthrough album, Not a Moment Too Soon, was the top country album of 1994. McGraw’s albums have produced 65 singles, 25 have reached number 1. Three of these singles — “It’s Your Love”, “Just to See You Smile”, and “Live Like You Were Dying” — were the top country songs of 1997, 1998, and 2004 according to Billboard. McGraw has also won three Grammy Awards, 14 ACM awards, 11 CMA awards, and many others.

Faith Hill’s first two albums, Take Me as I Am (1993), and It Matters to Me (1995), were major successes and had three number ones on Billboard‘s country charts. She achieved mainstream and crossover success with her next two albums, Faith (1998) and Breathe (1999). Faith spawned her first international hit in early 1998, “This Kiss.” Her album, Breathe, became one of the best-selling country albums of all time. Hill has also won three Grammy Awards. Her latest individual album, Fireflies (2005), was a commercial success with the crossover single, “Cry,”which won a Grammy Award. Fireflies also produced the hits “Mississippi Girl” and “Like We Never Loved at All,” a duet with Tim McGraw.

Back in Spring of 1996, Faith Hill began and a Tim McGraw began their Spontaneous Combustion Tour. Hill, who was once divorced, was engaged to her former producer, while McGraw had ended an engagement. McGraw and Hill were quickly attracted to each other and began a relationship. Hill became pregnant with their first child, and the couple married on October 6, 1996.

They have three daughters together, Gracie, Maggie, and Audrey Caroline. Since their marriage, Hill and McGraw have never to be apart for more than three consecutive days. Their current joint tour, Soul2Soul II Tour, is one of the highest grossing tours in country music history.

Use “Speak to A Girl” by McGraw and Hill, as a source of inspiration for any form of creative expression (including but not limited to short stories, poems, lyrics, artwork, photography, (etc.).

Alternatively, If you are a musician, use this as an opportunity to showcase your own work.

What kind of morals do you think both singers are expressing in their song, both for their fans and their daughters? How were you taught that women should be treated or spoken to? How do you perceive manners towards woman have changed since you were young, or at the age you find yourself? What manners do you treat women (including your mom) with? Or if you’re female, what manners do the men in your life treat you with, good or bad? How do you perceive the females in your life are treated by the men who treat them well or treat them poorly?

Likewise, you can reflect on certain lyrics, or write about whatever this song inspires inside you. I like creativity, so do your worst!

“Speak to A Girl” by Tim McGraw & Faith Hill

*****

[Faith Hill:]

She don’t give a damn ’bout your Benjamin Franklin’s, she wants Aretha

She don’t really care how you’re spending your money, it’s all how you treat her

She just want a friend to be there when she opens her eyes in the morning

She wants you to say what you mean and mean everything that you’re saying

‘Cause that’s how you talk to a woman, that’s how you speak to a girl

That’s how you get with the lady who’s worth more than anything in your whole world

You better respect your Mama, respect the hell out of her

‘Cause that’s how you talk to a woman and that’s how you speak to a girl

*****

[Tim McGraw:]

She don’t give a damn ’bout your pride or the lies that you’re hiding behind

She just wanna feel that you’re real, that she’s near to the man that’s inside

She don’t need to hear she’s a queen on a throne, that she’s more than amazing

She just wants you to say what you mean and to mean everything that you’re saying

*****

[Tim McGraw & Faith Hill:]

‘Cause that’s how you talk to a woman, that’s how you speak to a girl

That’s how you get with a lady who’s worth more than anything in your whole world

You better respect your Mama, respect the hell out of her

‘Cause that’s how you talk to a woman, that’s how you speak to a girl

That’s how you speak to, speak to her

That’s how you speak to, speak to her

*****

‘Cause that’s how you talk to a woman, that’s how you speak to a girl

That’s how you get with a lady who’s worth more than anything in your whole world

You better respect your Mama, respect the hell out of her

‘Cause that’s how you talk to a woman and that’s how you speak to a girl

That’s how you talk to a woman, that’s how you speak to a girl
