Music Challenge #22: “I’ll be The Moon” by Dirks Bentley Ft. Maren Morris #amwriting #musicchallenge #MLMM

For this week I’ve chosen an interesting song by an an amazing country artists Dirks Bentley. I did see him performing back when he was a first act rather than a main one as he is now. It was still amazing because I was so close to the front of the stage. The song I’ve chosen is called “I’ll be the Moon” from his album Black and it features Maren Morris.

” Dierks Bentley (born November 20, 1975) is an American singer and songwriter. In 2003, he signed to Capitol Nashville and released his debut album. Both it and its follow-up, 2005’s Modern Day Drifter, are certified platinum in the U.S. A third album, 2006’s Long Trip Alone, is certified gold. They were followed in mid-2008 by a greatest hits package.

His fourth album, Feel That Fire was released in February 2009. A bluegrass studio album, Up on the Ridge, was released on June 8, 2010, and then a sixth album, Home, followed in February 2012. His seventh album, Riser, was released in 2014 and his eighth album, entitled Black was released in May 2016.

Bentley also released a series of four short films for songs from Black, with episode one being the song “I’ll Be the Moon” featuring Maren Morris. The following episode serves as the video for “What the Hell Did I Say”. The album’s second single, “Different for Girls” featuring Elle King, was released to country radio on June 6, 2016. It reached at number one on Country Airplay in October 2016.

Bentley’s tenth album The Mountain is expected to be released later this year. He released the lead single, “Woman, Amen” on January 17, 2018 (Wikipedia.com).

Use “I’ll Be the Moon” as a source of inspiration for any form of creative expression (including but not limited to short stories, poems, lyrics, artwork, photography, etc.). Alternatively, If you are a musician, use this as an opportunity to showcase your own work.

What do you think about the song Dierks is singing? Can you love two people at on e? Is he in the wrong or in the right? Is she to blame more than he is? What does the song make you think of or feel?

Likewise, you can reflect on certain lyrics, or write about whatever this song inspires in you.

*****

The phone lights up in the dark, asks where you are and I start driving

Meet me for a drink, just an hour, maybe two, maybe three, baby I’m in

Girl, you can’t take your eyes off me

And that first kiss is sweet relief, ain’t no one gotta know

Just one more before you go

*****

I don’t wanna be a liar

I don’t wanna be a fool

I don’t wanna be a secret but I will if you want me to

You can leave me in the dark if that’s all I get from you

He can be the sun

I’ll be the moon

*****

Yeah, he can be the sun, I’ll be the moon

The phone lights up in the dark, gotta go, I know, but it still ain’t easy

Tomorrow, you’ll be waking up beside him, tell him that you love him but you still see me

In my mind when I’m looking at him

And in my eyes it’s the obvious elephant in the room

He can’t see it, but girl, you do

*****

I don’t wanna be a liar

I don’t wanna be a fool

I don’t wanna be a secret but I will if you want me to

You can leave me in the dark if that’s all I get from you

He can be the sun

I’ll be the moon

Yeah, he can be the sun, I’ll be the moon

*****

The phone lights up in the dark, yes, it’s my turn and I start driving

*****

I don’t wanna be a liar

I don’t wanna be a fool

I don’t wanna be a secret but this is something I can’t lose

You can leave me in the dark if that’s all I get from you

He can be the sun

And I’ll be the moon

He can be the sun, I’ll be the moon

*****

The phone lights up in the dark

I haven’t listened to the song but I did read the lyrics and typically situations like this one always end in disaster. The Harrad Experiment aside, love triangles are not designed to be long lasting structures.

Haha, no they don’t last. I just liked the song. It happens so I guess it’s relatable.
