Welcome to another exciting week at Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie. My name is Mandibelle16 (you can call me Mandi or Amanda) and I will be taking over the Friday Music Prompt from Sanaa. All our best wishes to her in her new endeavours!
For this week’s prompt I’m sharing a song I’ve had stuck in my head the past couple of weeks. I thought it might be fun to highlight one side of Canada’s cultural history with an artist named Alex Nevsky, who was born in Granby, Quebec, Canada in 1986. His third album Nos Eldoras was released in 2016 and the song I’ve chosen is called “Jeter un Sort,” featuring Coeur de Pirate. I will provide both French and English lyrics.
Alternatively, If you are a musician use this as an opportunity to showcase your own work.

English Lyrics: “Jeter in Sort” or “Put A Spell On” by Alex Nevsky
Whatever that the time and the promises
If long time is only clumsiness
And I wait that always your look
Wich arises on my lips
***
Whatever the blue of the ocean
It’s the emptiness that I finally see
Taken here and nothing to get away
From our hearts so intimately linked
***
I casted a spell
Without really knowing what we would become
Body to body we disappear
Through the goodbye
***
And I gave everything to this cause
This time its enough
Let us at least go
Let us at least live
****
Let me at least live
***
Whatever the beauty of forgiveness
No birds will die if we go
Each for ourselves to the sad days
Everything deceives us, but do we really want better
***
Is it necessary to watch
Far in front of ourselves
To understand that we are lost
The horizon is maybe no longer in your eyes
Of precision, but never again of fire
***
I casted a spell
Without really knowing what we would become
Body to body we disappear
Through the goodbye
***
And I gave everything to this cause
This time its enough
Let us at least go
Let us at least live
***
I casted a spell
Without really knowing what we would become
Body to body we disappear
Through the goodbye
***
And I gave everything to this cause
This time its enough
Let us at least go
Let us at least live
***
Let me at least live

French Lyrics: “Jeter un Sort” by Alex Nevesky
Qu’importe le temps et les promesses
Si longtemps ce n’est que maladresse
Et j’attends de toujours ton regard
***
Qui se pose sur mes lèvres en retard
***
Qu’importe le bleu de l’océan
C’est le vide que je vois finalement
Pris ici et rien pour s’arracher
De nos coeurs si intimement liés
***
J’ai jeté un sort
Sans trop savoir ce qu’on deviendrait
Corps à corps on disparait
À travers l’aurevoir
***
***
J’ai jeté un sort
Sans trop savoir ce qu’on deviendrait
Corps à corps on disparait
À travers l’aurevoir
***
Et j’ai tout donné à cette cause
Cette fois c’est assez
Laisse nous au moins partir
Laisse nous au moins vivre
***
J’ai jeté un sort
Sans trop savoir ce qu’on deviendrait
Corps à corps on disparait
À travers l’aurevoir
***
Et j’ai tout donné à cette cause
Cette fois c’est assez
Laisse nous au moins partir
Laisse nous au moins vivre
***
Laisse moi amusions vivre

Wonderful piece of music — Surprised how much of the French I remembered.
Congrats on your first Friday Music Prompt — well chosen song.
Thanks Lorraine. Me too, after hearing it a few times many words were familiar 🙂

Félications, Amanda, pour nous inspirer les vendredis. I just love this song!I was looking for the lyrics [I had not scrolled down to see you had posted them] and noticed the same song title by Laurence Jalbert which is another Québecoise but totally different…more a country style. I am actually from the Eastern townships near Granby and went to school there; I am going to check out his CD today so I can pop it in the car as I drive in that area this weekend.
That’s crazy there are so many versions of it. I’ll have to listen to the one you suggested. Happy you like the song and good luck with school. Nice to see another Canadian on here 🙂
