Saturday Mix — Lorraine

Welcome to Saturday Mix — Lorraine where we play in a sandbox of words writing flash, microfiction and poetry. Bastet and I are sharing hosting duties. This week, I have two pieces of micro-fiction and a poem to offer.

Let’s try what I call a fifty/fifty split: write a piece of flash in 50 words using one word from each column; you can alter the form of the word – responded; deliciously

noun             verb            modifier (verb/noun)

cistern          undulate       careful

artisan          respond        inquisitive

sphinx          attach            ultramarine

rabbit           peruse           opaque

courtesan    vibrate           delicious

And in 25 words or less, an image for your perusal and penmanship:

The poetry form this week is a shadorma (3/5/3/3/7/5). You can write one stanza (that’s what I do) or multiple stanzas. I’d like you to write to a theme word this week, chimera. You can think of the house for the “In 25 words or less”, and wonder if chimera applies there too. Chimera has multiple meanings — feel free to explore.

so fleeting

a whole breath then gone

reaching for

aching for

chimera beats against heart

then spinning away

Hope you have fun in your sandbox of words. Next week, Bastet will offer up her Saturday Mix for your enjoyment!

  1. I’m not sure I understand what your challenge is. People who have been involved with these challenges for a long time may understand, but people new to the site won’t automatically read between the lines. Are we supposed to choose one of the three challenges — or do all three — or just do however much we want?

  2. […] Lorraine is the challenger for today’s Saturday Mix. She has offered three possibilities to stir up our writing egos. I was most drawn to the 25-word challenge based on the picture. But you may enjoy the other two as well. So if you like writing and want to stretch yourself a little, take a look at the details of the challenge here. […]
