Writing Prompt #154: Look to the Stars

For as long as humans have populated the planet, we have looked to the stars, the night skies, for signs, symbols, omens, forecasts, navigation. In fear and wonder, with questions, we have spun tales, created myths, in order to understand purpose, to answer unanswerable questions.

And so today, we turn to the next two cards in the Tarot – the Major Arcana:
The Hermit and the Wheel of Fortune

The Hermit: possible meanings: Soul-searching, introspection, inner guidance and/or Isolation, loneliness, withdrawal

Some of the symbols & meanings in the card:

mountains = achievement, pinnacles, awareness, enlightenment, sharing of knowledge,

latern = light, Solomon’s Seal, wisdom

snow = spiritual enlightenment, purity

Astro sign association: Virgo

Wheel of Fortune: possible meanings: Karma, destiny, life cycles, good luck and/or Bad luck, loss of control, negative influences

Some of the symbols within this card:

4 fixed signs of the zodiac: Aquarius, Scorpio, Leo, Taurus (angel, eagle, lion, bull)

animals: snake, Anubis, Sphinx

elements: alchemical symbols for life: mercury, sulphur, water and salt

Planet associated with this card: Jupiter

  • for further understanding and info. and to see this very full beautiful card, read here:

And so this week?

Perhaps your point of inspiration: elements or symbols of either one of the cards, or both? Maybe one or a few of the symbols leads you away from the cards and their traditional associations …. and you have a story, poem, a personal exposé you wish to share?

I’ll leave it open to you – to dream under the stars … and share what inspires you.

Guidelines, please, respectfully: stories/ flash fiction 600 words | poetry: whatever form or free-verse, but no Haiku – word count: 300 | personal exposé 1000 words

And finally: two paintings: representing the chosen cards for this week.
Perhaps they will simply be a point of inspiration of themselves … and you will happily slip into the mystic and create something entirely unrelated to the Tarot?
