Writing Prompt #127 “NoEnd House Part 7″

Nodus Tollens

nodus tollens n. the realization that the plot of your life doesn’t make sense to you anymore-that although you thought you were following the arc of the story, you keep finding yourself immersed in passages you don’t understand, that don’t even seem to belong in the same genre-which requires you to go back and reread

For a review of the original challenge click here

You don’t have to use the actual word in your piece but do include its essence. For those of you writing a cohesive story you don’t literally have to write your next piece in a different genre or disconnect it from your ongoing story though that is one way to include the word. For those not writing a cohesive story you can experiment with an unfamiliar genre. You can have your character question their direction in life, their sanity, their moral integrity, their place in a relationship, their identity etc. There are lots of ways to use this word I believe so get creative.

I don’t know that I’ll participate–I got very discouraged when I could no longer follow what I though the original premise of your prompt would be, an ongoing series tied around rooms in one house. So I don’t know if some new inspiration will suddenly burst for me. And I’m not being critical of you–I apparently just seized on what I though was the theme–which you may never have intended at all. Hope I’m being clear, taking responsibility for not understanding, being able to complete the series 🙂 xx00

That is the theme and I didn’t mean for the photos and words to be a distraction. I only meant for you to include them even if in abstraction into your ongoing saga about rooms in a house. So by all means please do continue writing about your house and if you can’t figure out how to include a word or an image into that saga be it concretely or abstractly then just focus on the house instead. In the first prompt there was a word and an image as well.

Please don’t think I was being critical of you, Yves–I was referring to period of time prior to 9/26 when I was swimming in difficult waters, and my thought process weighed me down, made writing even a haiku difficult. As things are much improved, I’ll look at your prompt again– 🙂

I did not think that was the case at all. I am glad that you comment and let me know how your feeling. As always you may come back to a prompt at anytime and I will always be happy to read it =)

My No End House story cycle became tangled when I used one “room” for two prompts, so that particular house is locked and shuttered for now. A summer rental perhaps?
So, not sure whence and hence I shall wander tonight!
