This week’s prompt is “Toska”
“No single word in English renders all the shades of toska. At its deepest and most painful, it is a sensation of great spiritual anguish, often without any specific cause. At less morbid levels it is a dull ache of the soul, a longing with nothing to long for, a sick pining, a vague restlessness, mental throes, yearning. In particular cases it may be the desire for somebody or something specific, nostalgia, love-sickness. At the lowest level it grades into ennui, boredom.” – Vladmir Nabokov
The definition offers multiple avenues for exploration your job is simply to chose one and explore it in depth 😉

I was in a state of Toska for 15 years and then she came back into my life for a moment. She left leaving nothing but sad memories and sadder words… This too will pass

I promised myself I wouldn’t continue writing of what happened these last 18 months… Never heard from her again… I guess I got the closure I had sought…

I hate when they disappear I find it hard to understand and move on. I recently went to a party and encountered a friend whom I was very close to but had stopped contacting me and I found it quite painful seeing her again. We never had a falling out but something happened that I do not comprehend

I knew she would come back into my life. I prayed that she would and indeed she did… Messed up on prescription meds, alcohol and coke. I tried to get to a place in her life where she thought about her real self.. I had her light a candle.. If just that.. She said she was coming here but then fate changed things and that was it. It’s not just sad, I don’t even know what to call it… I knew she wasn’t the woman she was 15 years ago.. But I knew the real Jen… This too will pass…

I did not realize you did so many ‘challenges’ or ‘prompts’ – if I only had the time!! I did write the Sunday Whirl piece first. Sometimes it is fun to, as I say; ‘stuff the prompt’ see how many prompts I can stuff into one piece – this worked quite the other way around and I learned something new too! Thank you.

The soul
her image
in the face of man
in every face
the ghost
the soul
in man
the source
have a long while
in today
in the there
what a blessing
renunciation of love
the gift
to virtue
the other
that below
is up
in the mind
to human dignity
the better
to practice daily
the duty
the pain
the agony
endure the unrealizable
everybody take
his cross upon himself
