Tale Weaver’s Prompt #5 “Slang”

Toaster-Bar-Scifi-Wallpaper

Randis Albion @Deviant Art

This week I want you to write about a typical bar scene

Here are some situations to consider

A bar fight

Unwanted romantic advances

A bachelorette party/a stag party

Drowning your sorrows

Entertaining clients for work

Trying to get out of an outstanding tab

Cruising for a one night stand

Listening to someone recount their recent misfortunes

That sounds simple enough what’s the catch?

The catch is that I want you to set your scene in the distant future and/or in/on another planet/universe/dimension/galaxy. Think the classic scene from Star Wars.

The second catch is that I want you to get creative with the vocabulary. Many of you are familiar with the book “A Clockwork Orange” and thus are familiar with Burgess’ colorful use of slang. Vocabulary can add an entirely new dimension to even the most mundane scenes. It can even bring a character  to life.

If you are uncertain of your ability to invent slang I have links to 3 separate dictionaries from which you can borrow slang. If you choose to invent your own please include definitions for ambiguous terms. If you decide to use another slang dictionary other than those which I have provided please send me a link.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
